FDLA depends on dozens of experienced, committed volunteer attorneys to keep the hotline up and running.
We could not provide services to the people of Chicago without the dedication of our volunteers.
FDLA volunteer attorneys take one or more 12-hour shifts per month, during which they respond to hotline calls for
people in Chicago Police Department custody. Where appropriate, volunteer attorneys visit police stations to
represent clients, ensuring each client knows their rights, helping them assert those rights, and intervening if
there has been police misconduct.
Hotline Volunteers must be:
- members of the Illinois Bar or 711-licensed law students in good standing;
- be available for at least one 12-hour shift per month;
- and own or have access to a car.
If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please submit a Volunteer Information Form.
