Street Law Education Initiative

FDLA’s Know Your Rights Education Campaigns conduct street outreach, workshops, leadership development and produce multimedia educational materials to build the hope, skills, and knowledge necessary for people to access their constitutional rights when in contact with police. In 2016, only .98% of arrestees had a lawyer available to consult with at the police station; by 2018 this number was up to 1.67%. The Street Law Team’s focus in Greater Englewood and Greater Lawndale aims to continue increasing arrestees’ access to stationhouse counsel in 2019.

To become a Street Law volunteer, attend a workshop to observe and introduce yourself to the organizers. We will train and support you to deliver workshops!
