Alexandria (“Alex”) Santistevan is the Community Justice Initiative (CJI) Program Manager and a Know Your Rights (KYR) Staff Attorney at First Defense Legal Aid. Alex’s experience as an advocate for justice began with Colorado Legal Services- Migrant Farmworker Division (CLS). There, she deepened her passion for helping underrepresented and underserved communities. Since, she has been doing door-to-door outreach, street outreach, and performing Know Your Rights workshops to ensure that everyone has access to counsel and knows what rights are afforded to them. After CLS, Alex gained litigation experience with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, the City of Chicago, and the Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project. Her passion lies in access to justice and fairness in marginalized communities.
Alex received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver in 2011 and earned her law degree at the John Marshall Law School in 2017 where she graduated with a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution. She is bilingual in English and Spanish and is licensed to practice law in both state and federal court in Illinois.
