Sasha Nathalie Reyes was born and raised on the Southwest side of Chicago
in the Brighton Park neighborhood until she was 18 years old when she went
away to study Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She credits
her mother and father for instilling a hard work ethic in her; “Echale
Ganaz” and “Si Se Puede” were sayings told to her every morning which
helped her navigate spaces that did not totally reflect her upbringing.
While at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she was a member of the
student organization Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán where she
hosted culturally relevant workshops to the Madison population. After she
graduated, she missed her hometown and returned to Chicago. Sasha aims at
helping people in any way she can when she speaks to them, and it reflects
in her work.
